Run-Raising: February 2019
(Firstly, I apologise that this post is so late going up - I have been ill with the flu for the past two weeks and bed bound for the majority of it. No running for me )
The chosen charities this month are:
BRITISH LUNG FOUNDATION & LGBT+ STONEWALL
The events this month: Women's Lacrosse Varsity (not a pure running event but a v. important event nonetheless), 5K event, (v) Time Warp 10K and (v) Valentines 5K
British Lung Foundation
As some of you may be aware. in October 2018 I ran my very first half marathon in aid of the British Lung Foundation. With thanks to you wonderful humans, we managed to raise £305. I'd love to add to this total this month as this charity holds a dear place in my heart and it would be fab to help them out even more. The BLF are the only UK charity looking after the nation’s lungs. Here are a few facts that you may not be aware of:
- £19 is enough money to help raise awareness of lung disease (last time we were able to fund this 16x!)
-Raising £64 can help a helpline nurse to support 8 people in need (which we were able to do 4.7 times over in October, meaning that 34 people were helped with your money!)
-And £118 can fund a life-changing research project for 1 day (2.5 days of life-changing research possibly funded by our October fundraising)

LGBT+ STONEWALL
Stonewall's mission is "to let all lesbian, gay, bi and trans people, here and abroad, know they're not alone. [They] believe we're stronger united, so [they] partner with organisations that help us create real change for the better." Every year for Varsity and February, Kent Union raise awareness of and promote diversity, freedom and individuality. In aid of this, and my belief that everyone has the right to be who they want to be, I will be raising money for the LGBT+ Stonewall. I think it is shocking that

What can your money do to help and support the LGBT+ Stonewall?
-£5 will fund a phone call from a young LGBT person
- with £25 LGBT+ Stonewall will be able to send our five packs to schools around Britain - giving them the skills to tackle homophobic, bi-phobic and trans-phobic bullying
- £50 would give the amazing opportunity for an LGBT role model to visit a school. This will enable them to tackle any questions or negative attitudes as well as helping young people to accept LGBT people without exception!
- A large jump here but £1,500 would allow them to bring international activists to the UK. This would help to exchange knowledge and share effective campaigning tactics to help improve the lives of LGBT+ people all around the world.
